Questions & Answers
Straight answers, no runaround.
The questions we hear most at the shop. Don't see yours? Call (602) 730-5243 and ask Scott directly.
Before you come in
How do I book an appointment?
Use the Book a Service link on any page to fill out a short service request, or call the shop at (602) 730-5243. Tell us the year, make and model plus what the car is doing, and we'll get you on the schedule — usually within the week.
Do you take walk-ins?
We'll always take a look if a bay is open, but we're a small shop and the schedule fills up. Calling ahead at (602) 730-5243 is the surest way to get seen the same day.
What are your hours?
Monday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm. Give us a call to confirm Sundays and holidays.
Where are you located?
8222 S Avenida Del Yaqui, Guadalupe, AZ 85283 — just off I-10, minutes from Tempe, Chandler and south Phoenix.
How long will my vehicle be in the shop?
Oil changes, tire rotations and most brake work are same-day. Bigger jobs — suspension, exhaust, motor and transmission work — depend on parts availability.
We'll give you a realistic timeframe before we start, and we'll call you if anything changes.
Service & repairs
What services do you offer?
Oil changes, tune ups, brakes, tire rotation, suspension and exhaust work, plus detailing, window tinting and car audio. Scott has twenty years of experience covering everything from routine maintenance to full motor and transmission swaps.
What kinds of vehicles do you work on?
Cars, trucks and SUVs across most makes and models, domestic and import. If you're not sure whether your vehicle is something we can take on, call us — we'll tell you straight, and point you somewhere else if it isn't a job for our shop.
My check engine light came on — what should I do?
A steady light usually means something needs attention soon, but it's generally safe to drive to the shop. A flashing light means stop driving and call us — continuing can damage the catalytic converter.
Either way, we'll pull the codes and tell you what they actually mean before recommending any work.
How often should I change my oil?
Follow your owner's manual first. As a rule of thumb, conventional oil runs about 3,000–5,000 miles and full synthetic about 7,500–10,000.
Arizona heat, dusty roads and a lot of short trips all push you toward the shorter end of that range.
Do you really do tinting, detailing and audio too?
We do. Window tinting, detailing and car audio installs are all done in-house, so you can get the mechanical work and the cosmetic work handled in the same visit.
Can I bring my own parts?
In a lot of cases, yes — call us before you buy so we can make sure the part is right for your vehicle. Keep in mind that a warranty on customer-supplied parts comes from wherever you bought them, not from us.
Pricing, payment & after the repair
Will I know what it costs before you start?
Always. We'll look the vehicle over, explain what we found in plain language, and go through the cost with you before a single wrench turns. If we find something else once we're in there, we stop and call you first.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cash and major credit and debit cards. If you'd like to sort out payment before you come in, just ask when you drop the vehicle off.
Is there a warranty on your work?
Yes — our repairs are backed by a warranty on parts and labor. Terms vary depending on the job and the parts used, so ask us about the coverage on your specific repair and we'll spell it out for you.
Do you rent U-Hauls?
We do — SJ Autowerkx is an authorized U-Haul rental location, so you can pick up a truck or trailer at the same address.
